Receive Alert Notifications via Email
You can configure automatic alert notifications (email messages) for alarms, which lets you address issues even when you are not actively watching the Pepperdata dashboard. The alerts contain links to the charts for the time the alarm was last fired and cleared, and links to the detail pages of apps for which the alarm fired. By viewing the charts you can see what the system was doing and likely determine why the alarm threshold was exceeded.
PagerDuty
If you have an account with PagerDuty—a page-based notification service—you can configure alert notifications through your PagerDuty account. PagerDuty notification is active for all alarms (regardless of whether they are configured with email override addresses).
Procedure
-
Navigate to the Alarms & Alerts page by either of the following methods:
- From the “top-nav” menu, click the Alarms icon (), and select View All Alarms.
- From the “left-nav” menu, select Alarms.
-
Click the Alert Connections tab.
-
In the PagerDuty section, click Set Up.
-
In the PagerDuty authorization page, enter the Email address and Password for your PagerDuty account, and click Authorize Integration.
You can set up email notifications to receive a message every time that an alarm fires. You can configure default email notifications for all alarms (see Default Email for All Alarms) and, optionally, email overrides for specific alarms (see Per-Alarm Email Overrides).
In This Section
Default Email for All Alarms
When you set up default email addresses for alerts, Pepperdata sends an email message to the default addresses every time any alert fires or clears. However, if there are per-alarm email overrides, no alert email messages are sent to the default email addresses for those specific alarms.
Procedure
-
Navigate to the Alarms & Alerts page, and then to the Alert Connections tab.
-
In the Email section, enter email address(es).
To enter multiple email addresses, separate them by a comma (
,
). -
Click Add.
Per-Alarm Email Overrides
When you configure an email override address for a specific alarm, the alert notifications for that alarm are sent only to the email override addresses. Notifications are not sent to default email addresses that are configured via the Alert Connections page. (PagerDuty alerts are unaffected, and Pepperdata continues to send alerts to PagerDuty for all alarms.)
Prerequisites
- If you are not a group administrator, create the alarm for which you want to configure email overrides for alert notifications. (See Create Alarms.)
